The lecture will be held at the New Convocation Arena, University of Port Harcourt, Choba, Rivers State, at 10am. The minister will speak on the topic “Leadership and Infrastructure Development in Nigeria: Lessons for future leaders,” according to a statement from Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the FCT Minister on Public Communications and Social Media.

The lecture will give the graduating class and the greater academic community a chance to discuss matters of paramount importance to our nation’s progress, leadership, and the trajectory of our society, according to a letter dated 20th April, 2026, signed by UNIPORT’s Vice Chancellor, Prof. Owunari A. Georgewill.

The following was the text of the letter that was sent on behalf of the University of Port Harcourt’s administration: “Your Excellency Sir, I am writing to humbly invite Your Excellency to serve as the Convocation Lecturer at our 36th Convocation Ceremony scheduled to hold on Saturday, June 6, 2026. Your Excellency has my deepest respect and admiration.

Your Excellency, the lasting impact of your leadership, the remarkable record of service you have provided to our country, and the significant contributions you have made to public administration, infrastructure development, and governance are evidence of your visionary leadership.

One of the most important parts of the ceremony, the Convocation Lecture, gives well-known people from all over the world a chance to talk to the graduating class and the rest of the academic community about important topics like leadership, national development, and the future of our

society.

Your participation and remarks at this momentous academic occasion will serve to both celebrate your Alma Mater and emphasise the importance of leadership, scholarship, and national advancement, in our opinion.

“Our students, who are on the cusp of new beginnings, will find it both motivating and illuminating.”

The invitation to be a guest lecturer at the convocation ceremony was accepted by the minister in a letter written by his chief of staff, Chidi Amadi, and dated April 23, 2026.

The letter stated that the Honourable Minister chose the subject mentioned above out of all the options available to him because he believes that good leadership should lead to real changes, especially in the form of improvements to essential public services, infrastructure, and amenities.
