The members of the Kebbi State House of Assembly on Wednesday chose the member representing Sakaba Constituency, Salisu Muhammad Dangoje as the next Speaker of the Assembly unopposed.
Dangoje’s emergence comes roughly two months after the death of the immediate past Speaker, Muhammad Usman Zuru, who died on April 6, 2026, in Cairo, Egypt.
His nomination was moved in plenary by the member representing Ngaski Constituency, Adamu Muhammad Birnin-Yauri and seconded by Lauwal Haruna Gele.
The lawmakers, then unanimously approved the appointment, opening the way for Dangoje’s election and swearing-in by the Clerk of the House, Alhaji Suleiman Shamaki.
The new Speaker, who took the oath of office, thanked members of the Assembly for the confidence reposed in him and promised to deliver an inclusive leadership.
He pledged to members of the House to bring every member along in the fulfilment of his responsibilities and strengthen unity in the House.
Dangoje promised to maintain the confidence reposed on him, promote the unity of the House and collaborate with the executive arm of government for the development of Kebbi State.
He also sympathised with the family of the late Speaker, Muhammad Usman Zuru, the people of Zuru Emirate and inhabitants of the state over the loss.
Dangoje, who represents Kebbi South Senatorial District, has been in the Assembly for almost 11 years and before his new appointment, was the Chairman, House Committee on Information.
The new Speaker promised to collaborate with parliamentarians and other stakeholders to strengthen the legislature and promote good governance in the state.
His rise to the top fills the leadership vacuum created by the loss of Zuru, who commanded the Assembly until his death earlier this year.
